Accomplishments since Friday include:
- found many new nature trails to explore in the next few weeks
- updated my Airlie Gardens membership so I can "bring a friend"
- hung at least a dozen pictures on the walls so it is looking even more like home
- finished reading Cape Fear Rising, a very disturbing book about a race riot/massacre in Wilmington in 1898
- continued to get to the beach at least once a day
- Dave put together a new headboard for my bed
- bought the ingredients to make "Anne's Caramelized Onion White Pizza" when Dave comes back from fishing tonight.
- watched Dave play flag football (John still up north)
but the most important thing I "think" I have accomplished is...... I am learning that it is okay to just do nothing. I have always found it hard to not have a list of things I have to do at all times. I tend to feel guilty if I am not getting something crossed off my list. Perhaps part of being "retired and living in NC" is just enjoying the experience!
In response to your numbered list of accomplishments:
ReplyDelete1. The greatest thing I'm finding in my explorations is running into people who are a wealth of information and so eager to share their experiences of the places/trails they've visited trails. One doesn't need to travel far in these parts--there's so much to see in every part of this county alone, let alone the state!
2. The "bring a friend" benefit is wonderful, and I cannot wait for the day when I visit you in NC and you can be one of those people sharing your favorite spots!
3. Pictures hung... I finally matted one of my own photographs, and was surprised at how easy it was! I was a little fearful at first. Now I can't wait to mat more and prepare them for selling or gift-giving! You should take pictures of your pictures hanging in your home.
(Which reminds me... how's your camera been working? Problem solved??)
4. What an eye-opening experience to learn about riots/massacres. In the 6 Billion Others book I told you about, there were so many tales shared of survivors of the Rwanda massacre and other little-mentioned massacres around the world. Horrific.
5. Glad you still make it to the beach. Life is all about choices and having the power to make time for what you want in your life.
7. Your pizza reminds me of an old Italian recipe for a carmelized onion pizza my grandmother used to make around the holidays. A tradition that warms me just thinking about it. To those that have never had it, it probably doesn't sound good, but oh, the sweetness! No cheese in Grandma's, and it had an upper crust, so it was a stuffed pizza. Yum.
And as far as your final comment, repeat after me: "Guilt is no longer a word in my vocabulary. The choices I make are solely for my better interest and there's no room for guilt!"
