I saw this trumpter swan racing across the pond at Airlie Gardens this morning... and then found out why.....
He was chasing this Canada goose... there were NO geese anywhere on the pond.... I saw the same male swan chasing the geese on land as well... who knew!
I took this picture at the end of the pier at Wrightsville Beach..... look how beautiful the water is... I haven't figured out what kind of duck this is....
Great shots of the swan! Must have been pretty intense witnessing that aggression firsthand! Those big birds can become pretty scary when they become fierce, as opposed to their more gentle appearance otherwise. Did you know... folks actually float swan decoys in their ponds and lakes to keep geese at bay (pun intended!) Most of the time just having the fake ones will keep geese away from an area. Beautiful shot of the unknown duck (as well as the background!) Gorgeous feather patterns with little downy tufts.
