My last stop (Santee National Wildlife Refugee)

I made one last stop while driving home on Monday and explored the Santee National Wildlife Refuge (which had just reopened after recovering from the ice storm last month).

I saw at least 10 alligators along this auto drive.

And as a final thank you for an amazing trip I stopped to let this turtle go by..... 

Savannah National Wildlife Reserve

Saying goodbye to Florida I drove north about 4 hours and then explored another Wildlife Drive. The best surprise here was a woodpecker chick (not sure what kind) peeking out of his nest.

The Slow Road Home, Day 2, Morning

Back to Merritt Island NWR this morning. Another amazing experience.... "herds" of avocets, a dozen roseate spoonbills flying overhead, dancing reddish egrets, an eight foot alligator, a muddy raccoon, a woodstork, and more:)
